amazing. this is one of my personal “holy grail” records... originally released in a pair of tinyeditions: first as “fantasmes ou l’histoire de blanche-neige” on sfp in 1975, then the visually/sonically superior second version a few years later on nathan (as reproduced here) which was only made available to institutions, schools, and radio...

...which is rather alarming as this is among, if not my single-favorite lejeune piece on record; in fact it rates amongst the most awe-inspiring moments of the grm’s second generation, such as bayle’s “jeîta” or parmegiani’s “de natura sonorum.”

bookended by a suite of thematic etudes, “blanche neige” is ruthlessly abstract, running the gamut from high-end synthesizer/musique-concrète fragments to long stretches of pointillist manipulated sound-events (solo instruments, plunderphonic “esnemble” recordings, birdsong, etc...) it’s a veritable short-attention-span sufferer’s dream, with most pieces hovering around the 3-minute mark.
